Matt here. I broke the photo gallery. I did an upgrade to version 2.2.something, so that I could add videos directly to the gallery, now it doesn’t work. I hope to get it fixed tonight! I’ve also heard from a few people that I should fix comments–I was getting approximately 10 “Spam” comments per day and got sick of it, so I added the “spam filter” (do an easy math problem) and that wasn’t quite working right. So I’ll put getting comments working correctly up on the list of things to do. While I’m hacking away on these things, I’ll let you enjoy at least one new picture of the family.. We went up the tram with Chip, Missy, and Adelie last Sat–lots of snow still up there! Hopefully the gallery will be fixed and more pictures will follow!
Look at them Buns!
Matt was in Fairadise, and it happened to be opening weekend (on Friday morning) for Buns on the Run! This is a trailer that is setup in the summer in the Beaver Sports parking lot on College Road that sells Cinnamon Rolls and other yummy breakfasts (and good sandwiches for lunch). Matt noticed that they opened at 7 am on Friday (he was in Fairbanks Wed-Sat), so he got there at about 6:50 am. He was third in line to get the first buns of the season. Wahoo!
Apologies to Johnny, Ryan, and all frisbee players for the title of this post.
Beach Hike
We went out to Boy Scout Beach with Chip, Missy, and Adelie two weeks ago. It was a great day–parts of the trail still had really deep snow, while other parts were melted off completely. The wind off the ocean was a bit chilly, so we found a tree sheltered area for our picnic. If the pictures below aren’t more than enough, there’s the gallery, as usual.
God Bless you, Mr. Vonnegut
KV passed away. His writing definitely made a big impression on me back in the day, and is still fun to read. -M A good NYT obit is online (You probably need a login there to read it.. Sorry.) Here’s the best summary I’ve seen, from indexed, a fun blog I watch (original source is http://indexed.blogspot.com/2007/04/so-it-goes.html
Wahoo Folkfest!
It is the week of folkfest! Torsten has had a blast on both Monday and Tuesday evenings. You should be tuning in on Rain Country Radio. And we’ve got a short video trying to capture some of Torsten’s dancing.
Gram and Gramp visit
Still catching up in t-h blog. We enjoyed a great visit from Gram and Gramp. Lots of great grandparent time for Torsten, a good bit of snow shoveling, some good walks, lots of good house “puttering”/fix-ups (THANKS!), and even a little skiing for Matt & Carrie–woohoo! As always, if these pictures aren’t enough, all the rest are in the gallery.
Making sure Torsten understands the importance of ice cream as a family tradition.
Out for a snowy walk (at Dredge Lakes) with Gram and Gramp.
Lots of snow to shovel! Woohoo!
A new sweater Gramknit–showing Torsten how to fix a button.
Reading with Gramp (after playing with trains).
And a family photo:
Auke Lake Ski
On a sunny day of yore (back on Feb 23.. we’re trying to catch up here at t-h blog), we went out skiing across Auke Lake with Abbey. David, Dylan, and Jill joined us. It was a glorious day of skiing, and several more pictures are at the gallery from that day.
New Blog Software
Howdy blog fans! I was using iWeb for the talus-and-heavner.com web pages, including the built in blogs. I really liked the Mac-way except for the fact that I was tied to one single computer. I realize now that I could copy the Sites and the /Library/Applications/iWebSomethingerotherFolder around, but I didn’t, and that hard drive died. So I want something all out on a server somwhere else (at http://dreamhost.com/ and if you tell ’em that matt@talus-and-heavner.com sent you, I’ll get a little kick back from your web hosting escapades.) At any rate, we’re giving WordPress at dreamhost a shot (Tom and Laura at Spacenuts seem to like it). And now Carrie or Matt (or anyone else who asks) can add a blog entry. We’ll see how this adventure goes. And we’ll probably keep using iWeb for the main web stuff, but WordPress for the blog. If you want to find the old blog archives for pre July stuff, it is still around.
